Over the past decade, as HDD and SDD prices fell, these constraints have been melting away.įrankly, a lot of the old workarounds were very good and still used today, even on 100GB+ VIs. Developers used workarounds such as: compressed samples, shortened samples, didn't sample every key, limited the number of sample layers, reduced pedaling, etc. Not long ago, expensive storage created a significant constraint on piano VIs. But I'm asking from the angle of "how current is the VST and is it outdated?" With advances in technology I'm a little skeptical of buying a VST from 2014 or am I completely wrong about this?Īlso, has anyone given Hammers and Waves a try? Thanks so much for your input. I'm wondering in the world of Piano VST's, have there been any high end ones released in the last 2-3 years? I'm not trying to beat a dead horse as I know the "whats the best VST" thread has been done on this forum a lot. I'm watching Youtube videos of reviews and I don't like pianoTeq it is too artificial. Looks like Garritan has been out for 8 years, so has Ravenscroft. I noticed VST's like garritan, keyscape, pianoteq and ravenscroft. I can't really tell from youtube videos how they would sound when I play them as my style is very different than people playing them in a video review. I would like a PIano VST with realistic intimate sound in the style of neo-classical/yanni like music., and cost isn't an issue for me.
